How to play Minesweeper
Play free Minesweeper online at Beginner, Intermediate or Expert level. Your first click is safe. Use a mouse or touch controls, with no download.

- Click or tap to open a cell. Right-click or long-press to flag it. On a phone, Flag mode makes taps place flags instead. Press F to flag a focused cell.

- Choose Beginner (9 × 9, 10 mines), Intermediate (16 × 16, 40 mines) or Expert (30 × 16, 99 mines). Click any cell to start.
- Each number counts mines in the eight surrounding cells. Use those clues to find safe cells and flag suspected mines.
- When a revealed number has the matching number of adjacent flags, click it to open its remaining neighbors. Check your flags first: a wrong flag can make this open a mine.
- Open every non-mine cell to win. You do not have to flag every mine. If you hit one, start a new game and try again.
FAQ
Can I lose on the first click?
No. Mines are placed after your first opening and avoid that cell and its neighbors, giving you a safe starting area.
Is this a no-guess version of Minesweeper?
No. The first opening is safe, but later positions may require guessing. The game does not guarantee a board solvable by logic alone.
How do I place flags on a phone?
Long-press a covered cell, or turn on Flag mode and tap cells to flag them. Turn Flag mode off to open cells again.
How does Expert fit on a phone?
On narrow screens the Expert board is arranged vertically as 16 × 30, with the same 99 mines.
Can I continue an unfinished board?
Your current game is saved in this browser. Return on the same device and browser to continue. Clearing site data removes the save; progress does not sync between devices. Your best times are also kept locally.
